Americans have a difficult time discerning myth and legend from reality; but for the most part, Americans are God fearing, hard working, prideful individuals, who prefer self reliance over the increasing of government entitlements, warranties, social service assurance of guaranties. In fact, many Americans are concerned that the present governing laws that administrate and distribute entitlements may erode the American tradition of individualism and self reliance.
Almost all of the government services are managed and administrated by government employees. There are an increasing percentage of such employees in federal, state, county, and city governments. The percentage of government employees in relationship to total employed is rising at a staggering rate. It is reasonable that these employees would vote for the status quo or for more of the same in respect of increasing government programs. Their motivation of more government funding results in more programs and more government results in power and job security. As a consequence the scenario of bigger and larger government will run proportionate to a voting base inclined to vote for bigger and larger government. There would be no end to this cycle, at least, until the tax base can no longer support the growth.
But more importantly, the individual citizen could and will be corrupted by the lackadaisical: Government should take care of me attitude generated by the very concept of government entitlement.
There are of course exceptions related to the disabled, elderly and sick but in function all government programs should be centered on the concept of work and supporting those who work.
Citizens should manage their respective governments in a manner consistent with enhancing the individual’s self reliance; all government funded programs must be geared to enable the individual’s tenacity for self assurance and self belief.
